The Fraternité des Soeurs du Bon Pasteur is a religious congregation founded in 1984 in Rwanda, inspired by the Soeurs du Bon Pasteur of Quebec. Its main mission is to help women in distress and their children. In Kigali, the Centre du Bon Pasteur welcomes women taking part in a social reintegration program and technical training. These initiatives are supervised by a team of educators attached to the Congregation. A second mission was founded by the Congregation in the district of Gicumbi, a mountainous region where agriculture and livestock farming are the main sources of income.

The level of poverty in the region prevents many young people, especially young mothers, from continuing their education or accessing vocational training. However, jobs do exist, particularly in the region’s hotels.

The Fraternité des Soeurs du Bon Pasteur has inaugurated a trade school in Gicumbi, with the aim of offering a real opportunity to those most in need. Thanks to the generous support of the Roncalli International Foundation, amounting to $33,887, the school has been able to acquire new material for teaching practical and in-demand trades such as sewing, hairdressing and cooking. This is opening doors to autonomy, dignity and hope for a better future for the school’s students.

The school’s mission :

  • Accompany women, especially young mothers, towards financial independence.
  • Provide practical skills to create employment.
  • Provide access to quality training in a caring and motivating environment.

Project objectives :

  • Reinforce women’s autonomy and dignity.
  •  Offer training to help generate income.
  •  Improve the quality of education for young people, especially young mothers
  •  Increase the number of participants in the trainings from 25 to 105 students.

Every day, this school enables young women to regain their self-confidence, dream bigger and bring to life their projects.

Help create a community of hope!
