SOPAR and the Roncalli International Foundation: Over 45 years of impactful partnership in India

Between 1998 and 2014, the Foundation funded 17 projects supporting women’s groups. Many of these groups are still active today — proof that the impact of a partnership can extend well beyond the duration of the initial project. These initiatives have helped many women to develop new skills and gain autonomy, in part through the establishment of rotating savings and credit associations managed by women.

Over 45 years, this partnership has funded 140 projects worth $4.3 million, significantly improving the health and living conditions of thousands of people. But beyond the numbers, these projects continue to act as a spark: communities become empowered and take charge of their own development. As the women of Danthalapally attest, it is the communities themselves, who manage, maintain, and build on the results of the projects well into the future.

Today, the partnership remains focused on women’s empowerment and access to affordable clean water. At the heart of every project lies one conviction: sustainable development is built with communities, by valuing their strengths and their capacity to shape their own future.
